Cooking Class and Lunch in Holly’s Kitchen

I’ve taught cooking classes in kitchens big and small, professional and non-professional (including a tiny and marvelous nook of a pie slice-shaped kitchen in my French country house), but my favorite place of all to cook is in my own gourmet, kitchen right here in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Come play and learn with me in my personalized cooking classes. Learn to create dishes from my cookbooks, or fresh dishes inspired by the seasons.  You decide what you want to learn, meal preferences, ingredients – the whole nine yards – and I’ll customize the menu and recipes accordingly. You want to perfect pie pastry and understand how to make the world’s flakiest short crust or an unforgettable sweet or savory tart? Understand how to prepare show-stopping eclairs and cream puffs, perfect a reduction sauce to rival a master chef, roast a chicken, braise a lamb daube, mash award-winning, best ever, better than grandma’s mashed potatoes? I’ve got you covered, often providing restaurant and prime insider Williamsburg area destination tips along the way.

Not only do I teach valuable tips and culinary skills/techniques, I make the lessons and learning fun, and really something for you to enjoy and serve up over and over again for your own friends and family. Many of my students are visiting Williamsburg as part of a celebration – wedding anniversary, birthday, girls weekend, romantic dinners, enjoying Southern food, Charleston/Lowcountry specialties – and almost always report the cooking class to be the highlight of their trip. I’m always a little sad to see them go.

During the class, I’ll prepare and teach you along the way how to re-create these dishes in your own home. Class size restricted (with some exceptions) to four persons. Class length varies from three to four hours.

Testimonials:

We had a blast! The food was delicious. Started out with radishes, salt, butter and fresh bread. Delicious! On to an incredible savory cheese soufflé with salad! Amazing. Everyone’s favorite. Then, a terrific curry and shrimp dish. Truly divine and finished with an Apple Tarte Tartin that was to die for. Wonderful evening had by all. And, we learned a ton! Holly taught us that it’s not soooooo hard to cook fantastic food!!

Love your classes. I want many more!!

Sue Hanshaw – July 2018

We had a wonderful time with Holly, cooking up a delicious meal. For the two of us, we requested a very “southern” style meal, and Holly graciously accommodated. This was not a “by the numbers,” just follow the recipe cooking class. She took time to explain the ingredients, provide background and history, and alternative options which could be used.  Add in her insightful stories of cooking in restaurants during her time in France, anecdotes about Julia Child and Daniel Boulud, and being an author and restaurant critic – we couldn’t have asked for more. As a bonus, we were able to meet her very rambunctious cat, Mr. Purrfect. Thanks, Holly!

Agris and Sherry – August, 2018

Holly, thank you so much for an awesome class. We had such a good time and felt so comfortable learning with you. The dishes were amazing and we are still enjoying them. The maple acorn squash soup was our favorite. I cannot wait to get some more ice cream today to pair with the leftover bread pudding. The shrimp and grits was so full of flavor.

Toya Williams – October, 2018

Cooking with Holly in her lovely home was such a treat! We learned so many culinary tricks, and the meal we prepared together was truly an amazing gourmet delight. It was so much fun spending the afternoon together and savoring our delicious accomplishments. We can’t wait to try some of the entrees from your cookbooks once we get back home to New Jersey. Thank  you so much for making our day one to remember!
